Cox Innovation Lab unveiled at Jackie Gaughan Boys & Girls Club

Representatives of Cox Las Vegas, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada, Clark County Commission Chair Tick Segerblom and Gaughan family members gathered to celebrate the October 30 opening of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada’s fourteenth Cox Innovation Lab.

The new, technology-filled lab is inside the John D. “Jackie” Gaughan Club, located at 920 Cottage Grove Ave., on the UNLV campus. This Cox Innovation Lab was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation. Named in honor of Cox Enterprises’ founder, the foundation provides funding for capital campaigns and special projects in communities where the company operates.

Since 2003, Cox and the James M. Cox Foundation have partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to plan and open more than 110 state-of-the-art Cox Innovation Labs across the nation. The first labs opened in 2004, making 2024 the 20th anniversary of the lab partnership.

“Cox is committed to ensuring children have the tools needed to succeed, including internet access, and acquire STEM skills through robotics and 3-D printing,” said Cox Las Vegas Market Vice President Janet Uthman. “Thanks to the support of the James M. Cox Foundation, we’re able to open our fourteenth Cox Innovation Lab in partnership with BGCSN at the Gaughan Club.”

According to Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada President and CEO Andy Bischel, Cox Innovation Labs are the cornerstone of the BGCA’s technology program, which provides students access to tools to advance tech-literacy skills and help bridge the digital gap for children without access to a cell phone, computer or internet connection at home.
